Minna Jail Break: Two killed, over 200 inmates reportedly escaped

Two people have been confirmed killed by Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) during a deadly Minna jail break today.

NPS spokesperson in Niger State, Rabiu Shuaibu, said the incident occurred on Sunday night at the prison, Tunga area of Minna Metropolis, but didn’t give mention exact number of inmates that escaped.

Minna Medium Security Prison is notorious for jail break.

Report from Niger State said a prison warder and a commercial motorcyclist, were killed in the process of the the 2018 Minna jailbreak.

“The unfortunate incident was perpetrated by armed criminals who attacked the prison and gained access after an exchange of fire with prison armed men.

“This led to the death of a prison officer and an Okada rider who convey a prison officer on night duty,” Shuaibu was quoted as saying by the Channels Tv.

The number of escaped prisoners is still being compiled, said prisons’ officials, but insider said over 200 prisons are not where to be found at the time of filing this report.

“The Prison authority in Minna is profiling the number of fleeing inmates to ascertain the escaped prisoners. So far, through the combined effort of all security agencies in the state, seven prisoners who attempted to escape have been recaptured and returned to the prison.”

Is 2018 Minna Jail break the first?

June 3, 2018 Minna jail break isn’t the first. The prison is known for deadly jail break. In 2014, a similar jailbreak occurred at the Minna maximum prisons where hundreds of inmates regained deadly freedom.
