Fuel Situation Report: Filling Stations in Port Harcourt Sell Fuel at Night for Fear of DPR Monitoring Team

Some filling stations selling above official pump price of N145 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, have reportedly resorted to selling fuel at night for fear of being caught by the officials of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Fuel Situation U-Reporter says.

Ambrose Ogbobe confirmed that some of the filling stations closed their stations during the day, and open at night to sell above official pump price, “Some sell at night at NTA Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.”

DPR launched Fuel Situation a few days back encouraging the Nigerians to use the hashtag #FuelSituation to report on twitter cases of hoarding, selling above N145and other sharp practices by marketers.

Before launching the Fuel Situation U-Report, DPR stated that some fuel marketers were found to be diverting or hoarding petroleum products, thereby complicating the situation.

Head of Public Affairs Unit of the Abuja office of the DPR, Mr. Mohammed Saidu, explained that shortly after the DPR concluded its recent round of inspections on petrol stations in Abuja and its environs, about129,000 litres of petrol were found to have been diverted by marketers within Abuja region, while a combined fine of N30.5 million were levied on three of such stations to be paid into the Treasury Single Account, TSA, of the Federal Government

It also launched more than 50 phone numbers for Nigerians to report such cases.
