Facebook founder, Mark Zukerberg, arrives Lagos, Nigeria, in historic visit to Africa

Facebook founder, Mark Zukerberg, has landed in Lagos, Nigeria, in a historic visit to Africa, making Nigeria his first stop on a business research trip to the continent.

“Next stop Lagos! This is my first trip to sub-Sahara Africa. I’ll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can.

“Our first stop is the Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who come to CcHub to build and launch their apps. I’m looking forward to meeting more people here,” Mark Zukerberg stated this on his Facebook timeline.

The founder of Co-creation Hub, Bosun Tijani, who was excite about the Mark Zukerberg’s decision to make the CcHUBNigeria his first stop said, “We were Mark Zukerberg’s FIRST STOP on his FIRST TRIP EVER to Sub-Saharan Africa. Can you beat that? Awesome time hosting a genuine world changer.”

Mr. Tijani said Mark Zukerberg’s visit to his firm was an impromptu “He didn’t tell us he was coming, but we have a lot to do together as regards entrepreneurship in technological innovations.”

He said Zukerberg came to support those building technology locally and software developers so as to create an avenue to listen to their challenges.

During his inspirational visit to CcHUBNigeria, Zukerberg told the children about how he started his business.

Nigeria is Facebook’s largest users in Africa. In a report published by QUARTZ Africa on February 6, 2016, “Facebook said it has 7.2million daily users from Nigeria with 97% of them accessing the platform via mobile.”
