Why Siasia resigned as Under-23 head coach

Samson Siasia has resigned as the Nigeria’s under-23 head coach having won Nigeria’s only bronze medal at the just concluded Olympics Games in Brazil Rio 2016.

He said he’s resigning because of what he described as unfair treatment from the Nigerian Football Federation.

He alleged that he had not been paid for five months by the NFF. NFF is yet to react to his claims.

NFF is notorious for owing indigenous coaches.

Vanguard newspapers quoted Siasia as saying, “You can’t keep going to a place where they don’t appreciate you. ”

He said he would go somewhere else where his efforts would be appreciated, “I have to go somewhere else where they will appreciate what I have done and what I can do and pay me the respect that I deserve.”

Siasia is currently the most decorated African coach at the Rio-Olympics. He won a silver medal in Beijing in 2008.

He said he had quit football in Nigeria after “a turbulent and incredible campaign in Brazil.”

The 1996 Olympic football champions became the first African country to complete an Olympic medal sweep having won a silver medal in Beijing in 2008.
