  • “Osun delegates came prepared with thugs”

A gathering of politicians at the Akure International Event Centre, Ondo State, was meant to be a discussion platform on true federalism and restructuring, but it went violence as Ondo thugs descended on Osun State Commissioner for Regional Integration, Bola Ilori, Thursday, September 21, 2017.

Ilori’s cloth was tore in the process by the political hoodlums suspected to be loyalists of the Secretary to Ondo State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde.

Iorin led the Osun State delegation to the true federalism debate, and he had presented the Rauf Aregbesola’s position on the matter, was leaving the venue when the thugs attacked him, while security operatives on ground look.

He was accused of not being a true member of All Progressive Congress.

Efforts of Ilori’s aides to rescue their boss were abortive as the hoodlums continued to pounce on him till his dress was tore into pieces.

He was later given another shirt to wear.

Mr. Ilori however, accused Mr. Abegunde, of being behind his ordeal, even though the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, made efforts to bring the rascal situation under control.

“I don’t know what called for this attack. I was on my way out after Osun presentation at the venue of the event when some boys loyal to “Abena” (Abegunde) descended on me. I am sure they are his boys and I am very sure of this fact.

“They are all scared of me coming for the senatorial seat in the next election and they are not comfortable with my political popularity,” he said.

Oke defected from the APC to AD to actualise his governorship candidate.

“Ilori came to cause trouble in Ondo”-Ondo Information Commissioner

The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Yemi Olowolabi, has said that Ilori and the Osun State delegates were the cause of the mayhem at the venue of an event that was meant to discuss way forward for Nigeria.

He said the event was peaceful and was an APC event.

It’d be recalled that Ilori supported and campaigned for Alliance for Democracy, AD, candidate  Olusola Oke in the last election in the state.

“What happened is sad but it was avoidable. It was apparent the Osun delegates came prepared with thugs, charms, ammunition, cudgels to an event which was supposed to be an all APC event,” he alleged.

“It is clear that they are here to foment trouble and if there was any retaliation there would have been casualties. We kept our calm even in the face of unwarranted provocation.

“Bola Ilori practically seized the microphone during the event. He was not the head of delegates from Osun. I will advise him to eschew culture of violence and give peace a chance.”

The government of both states is yet to officially react to the incident.
