N-Power Programme

N-power 2016 Application Vs N-power 2017 Registration Process: A Review

N-power is the job initiative programme of Nigeria’s government, which kick started 2016 with the aim of temporarily engaging 500, 000 unemployed Nigerian youths.

In the first batch, 200,000 Nigerians are already on the payroll since December 2016 (the number may have reduced due to inability of some successfully shortlisted applicants who couldn’t show up for physical verification, or due to disqualification of some of them). Government is already on another search to bring in another 300,000 young Nigerian graduates in 2017, that’s in addition to some non-graduate (50,000) that will be empowered later in the year.

The 500,000 constitute the graduates, who have first degree, NCE, OND etc; and more from the non-graduate programme later in the year.

The programme has been assessed to be the largest youth-engaging programme in Nigeria ever, and on the African continent, though it lasts for two years.

What exactly has been the difference between N-power 2016 recruitment process and N-power 2017 application process?

I’m going to review the application processes using these criterion:

  1. Application Simplicity
  2. Volume of application
  3. Interactivity
  4. Social media presence
  5. Application process

Application Simplicity

When NpowerNG Application opened on June 12, 2016, it took the recruitment technical team some days before they got errors on application portal right. Some applicants couldn’t even know their status due to the issue encountered during submission of application.

Some thought their application was successfully submitted whereby it wasn’t. The issues were later fixed, but it took longer time.

In 2017, N-power application process was simple. When the portal started taking applications on June 13, 2017 there were slight issues, but the technical team got on them on time.

The problem didn’t last for a day when it was fixed. That created convenience in application process in 2017 than 2016. It’s even simpler to apply on any browsing phone in 2017.

Volume of Application

Simplicity means more application. There could have been more applications than they were in 2016, but I think some of the technical challenges added to lowering the number.

In 2017, you should expect to see more applications because of the error preventive measures that were put in place.

In N-power Tax alone, the total number of applications was nearing the entire number of people N-power plans to take in 2017. Remember that the government only plans to engage 7,500 Community Liaison Tax Officers across the country.

Social media presence

NpowerNG 2016 was literarily nowhere to be found on the social media channels. Inquiries sent to the team via their social media accounts either got late reply or were not attended to.

That trend made some N-power Community Groups gained more members in such a shortest time. Today, there are some of them that have more members that the official N-power Facebook page.

I found out that N-powerNG Official Facebook page now has 207, 588 likes (at 02:48, September 13, 2017) more than 70% of the likes were gathered in 2017.

It’s another ball game in 2017 for N-power as it embarked on social media revolution to engage most of its existing volunteers and fresh applicants.

In 2017, it launched its presence on Africa’s most popular forum, nairaland; tweet more on Twitter, launched its WhatsApp Support Group, and reengineered its activities on Instagram and other channels that Nigerian youths use.

Kudos to the N-power for taking the programme to another level in 2017.

The social media presence of N-power 2017 recruitment exercise changed the face of digital application process in the history of Nigeria.

For the first time ever, a government job initiative programme would actively engage applicants on social media channels.

The social media presence in virtually all the major channels used by Nigerian youths simplified ways complaints are been handled.

The interactivity was poor during the 2016 applicant process as applicants scouted through the internet trying to find solution to their application process with little or insufficient problem-solving posts that could help.

But 2017 exercise is SUPERB!

Application process

Unlike the 2016 application process where applicants were eagerly waiting for what could be the next line of action from N-power.

It’s a bit different in 2017 application process as N-power team clearly states all the stages involved in the registration process. As an applicant is on a stage, he knows the next stage.

The registration process include:

Application: Interested and qualified Nigerians were free to visit the portal to apply.

BVN verification: Applicants’ Bank Verification Numbers were verified at the NIBBS to make sure the information they submitted were exactly what they claimed in the online registration form. Only those who passed through this stage passed to the next stage, which online assessment test.

Device Selection>Pre-selection>Physical verification>Selection, and finally Deployment.

With the outline of N-powerNG 2017 registration process, it’s simpler for applicants to know which and what is next.

Not just that, the social media channels of the Social Investment Programme is always been updated by its social media savvy 24/7 by N-power Situation Room, Abuja staff.

With this comparison, it’s glaring that the N-power 2017 recruitment is well planned and organized that the pioneering stage, which could be seen as test-stage.

Above all, the Federal Government of Nigeria deserves Kudos, Presidential aid on job Creation Mr. Afolabi Imoukhuede and his team deserves commendations.

We also hope that the volunteers make best out of the job initiative programme by encouraging the government to do even more by their attitude to work.
