Nigerian entertainment industry has lost another shining star, Obi Madubogwu.

Daily Post reports that he died Monday afternoon (August 28, 2017) after battling with ‘acute diabetic’s foot ulcers.’

Obi Madubogwu became popular for his role in the blockbuster ‘Battle of Musanga’ where he played the lead role.

Some months ago, the actor expressed his heartfelt thanks to Nigerians who helped him out financially, physically and spiritually.

He also urged them not to give up on him and but to assist him complete the final stage of his treatment which entailed flying out to a US hospital.

In 2017 alone, Nigeria has lost more than 10 entertainers: movie and music industry.

Names of Nollywood Celebs who died in 2017

It’s a dark Monday morning on January 2, 2017, as Nollywood actress Toyin Majekodunmi aka Iya Kike died of heart attack.

She was the first Nigerian entertainer to pass on in 2017. Married to a fellow actor, Solomon Majekodunmi aka ‘Baba Kekere’ for 37 years, she was a delight on stage and in movies.

Exactly two weeks after, a music legend William Onyeabor died on January 16 in Enugu. He was aged 70.

Some of his songs appeared on various compilations, most frequently his biggest hit, “Better Change Your Mind”, which appeared on Africa 100, World Psychedelic Classics 3: Love’s a Real Thing – The Funky Fuzzy Sounds of West Africa and Nigeria 70: The Definitive Story of 1970’s Funky Lagos, through labels such as Luaka Bop.

Barely a month again, Nigerian music industry lost a West Africa Idol star and top Nigerian gospel artiste, Eric Arubayi jnr. He died on February 11 at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, at the age of 34.

On another sad note, a promising comedian MC Worthy on February 13slumped and died.

Five days after, Ichie Mezuo Pericomo Okoye, aka Perikoma, died on February 16. He’s a legendary Igbo traditionalist and high life music exponent, who featured alongside Pete Edochie in the film Lion Of Africa.

A day after Perikoma’s death, a popular Kannywood movie producer, Ibrahim Bauni, died after a brief illness.

The month of March too didn’t go without another sad news from the industry as veteran Nollywood actor, James Uche, died on March 8 after a protracted battle with diabetes and kidney ailment.

On April 23, 2017, another brave actor Olumide Bakare died at the age of 65 in respiratory-related disease.

Another entertainer and one of the screen divers Moji Olaiya died early hour of May 18, 2017 at her base in Canada
