A part of the palace of Oba of Lagos , Rilwan Akiolu, has been gutted by fire. The palace is located at Iga Iduganran area of Lagos Island.
Reports say that the fire started from an air conditioner in an apartment inside the palace, destroying furniture and other household items in the room.
It was gathered that the incident started around 1.30pm with smokes billowing to the sky, which attracted a crowd to the area.
Firefighters from the Lagos State Fire Service, were readily on ground to put it out.
Last week, the social media went crazy with the trending news of Oba Akiolu of Lagos snub Oba Enitan, the Ooni of Ife.
Later in the week, it’s reported that Ooni of Ife allegedly threatened to invoke gods’ wrath to deal with Oba of Ife for snubbing him at a public function.
Oba Enitan denied such threat.
We’re not happy over Oba of Lagos Palace’s fire incidence-Ooni of Ife
Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Tuesday said he’s unhappy over the outbreak of fire at the royal residence of Oba of Lagos.
The spokesperson of the Ooni’s palace, Moses Olafare, was quoted as telling premium Times that “We are not happy over the fact that the palace of Lagos king got burnt, we can only sympathise with the palace on the development,”
Nigerians took to social media right away to say that the fire was caused by the snub, reports denied by Mr. Olafare.
“People are entitled to their own views,” he said. “But what people say doesn’t mean that is the position of the palace.”
“What happened is mere coincidence and should not be traced to the incident in Lagos, we send our sympathies,” he added.
