- Boko Haram yet to react
United States President Donald Trump may be controversial on issues relating to Islam, but his February 13, 2017 telephone conversation with Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari was centered on how to defeat the deadly terrorist group Boko Haram.
The first mention of Telephone Conversation takes literature students’ minds to Professor Wole Soyinka.
Yes, Soyinka wrote the poem that depicts conversation between a white lady and an African American man.
This time, it’s the first Telephone Conversation between two powerful leaders: a white, and an African, President Donald Trump of the United States, and his Nigerian counterpart President Muhammadu Buhari, who was on medication vacation in London at the time of the conversation.
Foreign analysts believe that the communication between the two leaders would be a boost to the All Progressive Congress-led government which had “Defeat of Boko Haram/Terrorism” as one of its campaign promises.
Press release signed by Buhari’s Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, says: “President Muhammadu Buhari this afternoon from London spoke to President Donald Trump on telephone at the request of the American President.
“The conversation was cordial and President Buhari congratulated Trump on his election as President of the United States, and on his cabinet.
“The two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against terrorism through provision of necessary equipment.
“President Trump encouraged President Buhari to keep up the good work he is doing, and also commended him for the efforts made in rescuing 24 of the Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military.
“President Trump assured the Nigerian President of US readiness to cut a new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat terrorism.”
The statement also said President Trump also invited President Buhari to Washington at a mutually convenient date.
In the meantime, the deadly terrorist group Boko Haram is yet to react to the telephone conversation between the two leaders, who are planning “evil” against them.
We all hope that President Donald Trump, and President Muhammadu Buhari Telephone Conversation would begin to yield result as Trump settles in office.
