Edgar Ighatta was afraid of one thing: NOT TO SPEAK THE TRUTH

Muslims around the world hoped for September 12, 2016, because it was a day marked for Sallah celebration. An Edo-born promising journalist Edgar Ighatta Francis joined in the celebration. He never knew it’d be a gloomy day for the family and friends he’s going to leave behind later in the day.

edgar-ighatta-francis4He was filled with life in the morning, but at about 1900HRS, Edgar Ighatta Francis had his last breathe. He went away with all the energies about a greater future for today’s generation.

A passionate speaker, a friend more than just a friend, a promising journalist, a disciplinarian, looked lion on the outside, but social, friendly in the inside, brave speaker, fearless man, eloquent with words, courageous, hardworking, intelligent.

Words to Edgar are limitless, because he’s a man you needed to get impossibilities done.  He was a man you needed to get inspired. He was a spirit-lifter.

When the idea for the establishment of infobase came up, Edgar was among the first passionate writers we contacted. Because he believed in journalism, he lived for journalism, he breathed journalism.

edgar-ighatta-francis7Edgar spoke where everyone went dumb.

He stood when nobody did.

He walked when everyone was afraid.

Edgar Ighatta was afraid of one thing: NOT TO SPEAK THE TRUTH.

Rest in the bosom heart of our Lord.

Opeyemi Quadri

Edgar was indeed a great man, he was blunt but had a selfless heart. His impact in people’s life will not be easily forgotten.

Adieu Edgar.

Extremely intelligent, never kept grudges

I have known him since 2005, we became classmates, media partners on a little platform in school, and then we became brothers. When you talk of versatility personified individual Edgar Ighata is a top notch.

edgar-ighatta-francis1Extremely intelligent, never kept grudges always fought for what is right, pragmatic and indeed an icon. Bring up any sensible discussion and he will definitely contribute positively. Some weeks back we agreed to meet in Lagos so as to plan how to storm the media positively with collaborative brilliant ideas but never knew God has better plans.

edgar-ighatta-francis2You were pivotal to the unity of your family; you put smiles on the faces of everyone you came across with. Words are not enough to express how our generation will miss you. Heaven welcomes a jolly good fellow and a rare creature.

Rest in peace Edgar-Francis Ighata.

Sun re o till we meet again.

Anthony Amenaghawon

Adieu Edgar Ighata my friend

In all fairness we quarreled over flimsy issues but in no time we got to understand each other.

You joined us at ekenhuan campus and I had this notion that “Na em sabi book pass sef”. Little did I know that you were a rare gem!

edgar-ighatta-francis8We became pals, ate from the same plate and played football with huge smiles all those times.

If tears could build a stairway and walk memory lane, I would walk right up to heaven

No farewell words were ever spoken

No time to say good bye

My heart, it aches in sadness

What it meant to lose you,

No one will ever understand

High in your heavenly home

I would rather have you closer

But God only knows.

Adieu Edgar Ighata

  • I remember the few times we met.
I remember vividly a particular event.
That day you made a strong impression, you spoke the truth.
That day you were a voice for the voiceless.
It’s sad that you “slept” early
But even in this “sleep” your words still speak.
May our good and merciful God receive your soul.
May He grant us and your family the fortitude to bear this great loss.

    • Edgar was a hero. I brilliant presenter.

We’re exchanging ideas oneday and I got lost along the way. I had to pretend as if i was following his points, but I was totally lost. I nearly asked ,”Do you think you need a degree?”

His ideas were brilliant than some people who had higher qualifications.
His courage wasn’t easy to subdue.
      Edgar was a goal-getter.

      Continue to rest in peace.

    • Hi Temistone, everybody, like you, knows the social, academic and motivational value of Edgar.

We attended UNIBEN together, the same course, and he’s our production manager at a mini campus radio he spearheaded. He’s such a brilliant guy.
